EARLY LIFE
Hailing from a modest background, Navniet Sekera was born on October 22, 1971, and attended the All-Boys School in Etah, Firozabad District, UP. His academic brilliance led him to clear the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) entrance examination, where he pursued a B.Tech degree in Computer Science Engineering at IIT Roorkee.
However, a life-altering event after his graduation redirected his path and kindled a fire within him.
The turning point occurred when Sekera’s father, a low-income farmer, faced threats from influential local criminals. Seeking justice, Sekera accompanied his father to the police station to lodge a complaint.
Pledge To Transform Policing
Unfortunately, they were met with ridicule and indifference from the local police officer, leaving a profound impact on Sekera. Motivated by the need for a transformation in the police system’s efficiency and sensitivity towards the common people, Sekera decided to dedicate his life to the noble cause. He resolved to clear the UPSC examination with the sole aim of becoming an IPS officer.
With unwavering determination, Sekera toiled relentlessly, leading to his success in clearing the UPSC exam on his very first attempt. Despite qualifying for the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Sekera’s passion for the police services led him to opt for the IPS cadre. In 1996, he completed his training with distinction at the Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA) in Hyderabad, setting the stage for his illustrious career.
Life In Uniform
Sekera’s first posting as an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Gorakhpur marked the beginning of his transformational journey. In December 1998, he was transferred to Meerut as the ASP, a time when organized crime plagued certain regions of Uttar Pradesh.
Unfazed by political pressure and armed with an indomitable spirit, Sekera spearheaded a relentless crackdown on these notorious criminals, either eliminating them in numerous encounters or ensuring their incarceration. His unwavering dedication and commitment to duty earned him the trust and admiration of the people, who rallied behind him and expressed their support through posters across Meerut, urging the authorities to cancel his transfer.
Over the course of his career, Sekera’s exceptional achievements propelled him through the ranks. In 2001, he was promoted to the position of Superintendent of Police (SP). After serving with distinction in this role for 11 years, he was further promoted to the rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) in 2012. In 2014, he assumed the esteemed position of Inspector General of Police (IG) of Women Power Line in UP. Presently, Sekera serves as the Additional Director General of Uttar Pradesh Police in Lucknow, upholding the values of justice and integrity.

As a bright and avid student, he fulfilled his dream of pursuing higher education by clearing the GMAT exam and securing admission to the prestigious Indian School of Business. He successfully completed his MBA in Finance, Strategy, and Leadership, further augmenting his skills and knowledge.
