The Mahakumbh, the world’s largest religious gathering, saw an astounding 66 crore devotees converge in Prayagraj. But beyond its spiritual significance, it became a life-changing event for many—especially for a boatman’s family that earned a staggering Rs 30 crore in just 45 days.
For generations, the Mahra family in Prayagraj has been in the boating business, ferrying pilgrims across the sacred waters. On normal days, they barely made Rs1,000-2,000 per boat. But during Mahakumbh 2025, their fleet of 130 boats earned them Rs 50,000-52,000 per boat daily, totaling an unprecedented fortune.
Speaking exclusively with India TV, the family expressed their amazement, saying they had never seen so much money in their lives. Their story even made it to the Uttar Pradesh Assembly, where CM Yogi Adityanath praised their hard work and highlighted how government efforts helped uplift the Nishad community, giving them respect and employment like never before.
From struggling to make ends meet to becoming crorepatis in just 45 days, this boatman’s success story is a testament to how opportunity and perseverance can change lives overnight.
